It’s freezing, it’s wet, the sky is stubbornly, interminably leaden grey and the winter is nowhere near over. What’s more, a new storm named after a different letter of the alphabet is seemingly on its way every week. Oh, and the post-festive bills have all arrived.

What’s the answer to cheer up the January gloom? Ski-ing in Klosters or a month in the Bahamas are out of reach for most of us. But, according to property website Zoopla, the answer is to indulge in a little viewing of homes that are beyond our budgets.

The web portal says we’ve increasingly been taking part in this form of escapism, viewing properties with wine cellars, staff quarters, cinemas and the like. Indeed, Zoopla reports that values of their top 10 most seen homes online last month totalled £75m.

Of the 10 most viewed houses during this time, half had at least six bedrooms, while swimming pools and bowling alleys also featured in many. (One even boasted its own golf course.)

All but two of the properties were worth over a million pounds, which is in contrast with the average price of a home in England and Wales of just over £188,250.

But what was also interesting about this report was that most of the top 10 viewed properties also came with an orangery – clearly a feature of a desirable residence!

And it seems there’s no better way of anticipating spring and warmer weather than by thinking about an orangery or conservatory and what it could do for your home, which, by the way, certainly doesn’t have to be worth or million a more to benefit from one of these extensions.

Orangeries and conservatories are affordable solutions which add value to your home as well as giving you elegant extra living space without the hassle and expense of moving. At Oasis, we’ll talk you through your options to find the end result that most suits your property.
